CITATION TYPE ISSUED

The department utilizes municipal violation summons as a more effective and efficient means to address minor crimes. Municipal violation summons are an alternative to a formal custodial arrest, which includes charging, fingerprinting, bonding and a mandatory court appearance. Additionally, through the Municipal Violations Hearing Officer, the offender may be ordered to participate in a specialized program that can be more tailored to address his or her particular deficiencies and needs, thus reducing recidivism.

As evidenced in the below graph, Illinois Vehicle Vcode (IVC) warnings and tickets continue to be the prevailing means to address violations and seek compliance in the village during 2022.

The chart below lists the top five officer initiated citations to motorists. Speeding continnues to be the leading ticket issued in Orland Park.

The number of citations written in 2022 had an increased in the number of citations written in 2021, with an increase of six percent.

Expired regitsration plates are the second highest citations issued and appear to have a direct reflection on the last two years during the Covid-19 pandemic, in which license plate renewal requirements were extended and tolerated. With the return to “Normal” all standard limitations returned to regular annual requirements. Distracted driving came in as the third most citations written and continues to be a concern in Orland Park.
