Just like the rainbow, we will cover a colorful and pattern-rich spectrum of subjects for our youngest artists to create in September; we’ll soak in the warm colors of the sun as we draw a radiating sun face and we’ll be careful not to get tangled up in our patterned spider web that we draw in October! With the coming of the winter months, we will draw and celebrate with a nutcracker that takes his job very seriously. All these and many more exciting lessons as we enhance our fine motor skills, learn to stay on task, follow directions, and learn the discrimination skills so critical in the classroom! Kick off the season with an interesting Iguana, a video game favorite— Pixel Block Character, and the geometrical world of architecture as we draw the Notre Dame Cathedral. Later, students will immerse themselves in the seasonal spirit as they learn still life technique of pumpkins, draw a detailed scarecrow, and a silly but challenging patterned bat. Finally, get ready for winter as we turn out a “sweet” drawing of a gingerbread house (almost good enough to eat!). VILLAGE OF ORLAND PARK PHOTO CONTEST The Village of Orland Park will be hosting its third annual photo contest. This event is free but you must complete the waiver to be included in the contest. Prizes will be given out to the winners in three age divisions (ages 14 & under, 15 to 17, and 18 & over). No more than one submission per resident. Besides artistic merit, the picture will be judged on how it reflects life in our great town of Orland Park! Photos will be displayed at Village facilities and used in our social media campaigns. Rules are simple. The subject of the photos could be any structure, place, nature, animal or person, and must be taken within the boundaries of Orland Park. Please email your picture to Jean Petrow at jpetrow@orlandpark.org. A waiver will be sent to you upon submission. This waiver will include permission for us to use your picture (credited to the photographer) on our social media, website, brochure, etc. Winners will be announced on September 15, 2022.
