ORLAND PARK POLICE ARREST ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT On February 19, 2023, at approximately 5:42 p.m., Orland Park Police Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Mobil gas station, located on the southwest corner of 143rd Street and LaGrange Road. An employee dialed 911 to inform police of a male suspect who entered the business and displayed a handgun as he demanded money from inside the cash register. The suspect fled the area prior to the officers’ arrival. Orland Park Police Investigators were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle which was registered to a Nathan Phillips. Investigators identified Phillips as the suspect who committed the armed robbery. On February 20, 2023, investigators were able to locate Phillips in the area of 102nd Street and Torrence Avenue in Chicago where he was placed under arrest. Investigators charged Phillips with one count of Armed Robbery (Class X Felony).

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY AFTER DOMESTIC RELATED STABBING On August 27th, 2023, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Orland Park Police Officers responded to a call from an employee at LifeTime Fitness, 16333 Lagrange Road, who stated a patron had been stabbed in the parking lot of the facility. Upon the officers’ arrival, it was learned that the offender had left the scene. While aid was being rendered to the victim, officers spotted the offender’s vehicle northbound on LaGrange Ave. The offender, now identified as Peter Surdek, was stopped and taken into custody by those officers. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was in stable condition. Further investigation revealed that Surdek and the victim had an “on-again-off-again” relationship for the past year. It was also learned that Surdek followed the victim to LifeTime and waited for the victim to exit before the attack. Investigators worked with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office who approved one count of Attempted Murder (Class X Felony).

2023 NOTEWORTHY INVESTIGATIONS

On February 22, 2023, Phillips was transported to the Bridgeview Courthouse when the Honorable Judge Jones held Phillips without bond.
