A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR PEKAU
I’m pleased to introduce this edition of the Village of Orland Park Recreation and Parks program guide. The Village offers a wide variety of programs, events and activities to meet the needs and interests of residents of all ages. Unlike other communities with a separate park district that also levies taxes, the Village of Orland Park directly provides the recreation opportunities for the community. This summer, we will see the completion of two exciting new projects. The first is a redeveloped Schussler Park that includes a dredged pond for better fishing, a new sledding hill and two artificial turf fields for football, soccer and lacrosse. The second is the new Centennial Park West concert venue where we hold national touring artist concerts. It will also be the new home to the Taste of Orland Park, the Village’s Fourth of July concert and fireworks, the Market at the Park and Movies in the Park. Within the summer guide, you will discover a plethora of opportunities including a large variety of camps for all ages and interests. Be sure to visit Hank’s Farm Stand at Boley farm. Opening mid-July, the Farm Stand offers an abundance of locally grown fruits and vegetables, as well as a variety of jellies and other farm favorites. Stellwagen Farm will once again host the fan favorite vintage baseball game as well as goat yoga. The Centennial Park Aquatic Center (CPAC) opens May 25th for the season. Early-bird memberships are available through April. Early risers will enjoy lap swim and walking in the lazy river, weekdays 6:15-8:15 a.m. Check out page 32 for this summer’s pool special events including Christmas in July. CPAC offers swim lessons for ages and skill levels including private lessons. CPAC is a great place to host a special celebration and has two pavilions available for rental. Be sure to join us for the July 3rd Veterans Liberty Run/Walk and August 27th for the Orland Park Veterans Golf Classic. Both events benefit local veterans' organizations. I look forward to seeing you this summer. Thank you,
Cynthia Nelson Katsenes
