The Orland Park Police Department has seen immense growth and modernization through its history. Long gone are the days of lighting street lamps, powering up the water pumps and borrowing part-time Chief Olsen’s personal vehicle to patrol the streets if one of the two squad cars was unavailable. Today, the Orland Park Police Department is led by a Chief of Police, Deputy Chief, three Commanders (Administration and Technical Services, Investigations and Patrol), six Lieutenants, 13 Sergeants and three civilian supervisors who oversee 227 civilian and sworn personnel. With an authorized strength of 109 full-time sworn officers and 20 part-time officers, the department can efficiently meet the needs of the community through patrol operations, specialized units and community-based programs. In October 2014, the Orland Park Police Department underwent an on-site assessment by two independent assessors from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP) to determine compliance with the rigorous requirements for Tier II Accreditation from the Illinois Chiefs of Police. Following the inspection, the assessors described the “Orland Park Police Department as a leader in law enforcement.” Additionally, the assessors “found the staff to be dedicated, well-trained, and highly educated.”
