EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (EMA) STRATEGIC PLAN GOAL: QUALITY OF LIFE

DIVISION FUNCTIONS

PURPOSE 2

In 2022 the Village of Orland Park Board of Trustees approved a complete overhaul of the police department’s outdoor warning siren system. This new technology will allow for the automatic activation of the sirens should the Village be named in the path of tornadoes. Additionally, the sirens can be activated manually when severe/ destructive winds are detected. With the new construction of the EOC, systems will be in place to monitor weather in real-time to reduce the risks of injury performing weather spotting in severe conditions.

The function of the EMA is to coordinate emergency management operations within the Village of Orland Park in accordance with the State Emergency Operations Plan, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act (20 ILCS 3305), and all applicable programs, orders, rules and regulations established by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. The EMA may also conduct emergency management functions outside the Village’s corporate limits when required under mutual aid agreements entered into with other political subdivisions, municipalities, or quasi-municipalities as authorized by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act.

PURPOSE 1

Allow EMA to continue providing uninterrupted public safety services by increasing its membership by 30-50% to handle ancillary duties, including traffic control, road closures and responses to power outages.

EMA members will check equipment readiness with bi-monthly inspections. In addition, EMA leadership will meet and review to ensure members have the appropriate assigned equipment. Re-evaluate the overall needs of EMA emergency equipment on an ongoing basis. OBJECTIVE 2

Increase member involvement with training offered by the Cook County Emergency Management and Regional Security, National Weather Service and other Emergency Management Agencies.
