Adopt the Village’s proposal to focus on emergency preparedness through a comprehensive review of current capabilities and future needs. Proposed changes include renaming the Village’s Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) to Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to align with the national precedent and maintain a roster of 60 EMA members.

The Village will create a new position titled the Emergency Management & Special Event Staffing Coordinator.

GOAL NO. 3

PURPOSE 1

Increase public awareness of how to prepare for natural disasters and educate the community on EMA’s support role during civil disturbances.

The EMA Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing emergency plans, coordinating disaster response and recovery and managing staffing for both large scale emergencies and special events. This role involves assessing risks, training staff, ensuring compliance with regulations and coordinating with various agencies and volunteers.

EMA will perform programs for the public, providing information to increase awareness about natural disasters and EMA’s support role with civil disturbances. EMA will utilize several programs: lunch and learn, police department citizen academies (teen and adult) and disaster workshops.
