2026 Budget In Brief
Vehicle and Equipment Division The Vehicle and Equipment Division of the Public Works Department manages vehicle and equipment procurement and all preventive and repair maintenance, fuel and the PACE ADA program. Currently the Village has 194 vehicles and 108 other pieces of equipment that are essential to provide services to the residents of the Village. The Village provides fuel to Village Departments, Fire District and Library. Based on a 2021 fleet assessment, a vehicle replacement plan was developed to replace vehicles in Village departments. In 2026, $2.1million is budgeted for new vehicles. Utilities Division The Utilities Division of the Public Works Department manages water, sanitary and storm systems throughout the Village. These systems include the main pump station, elevated water towers, booster stations, hydrants, valves, lift stations, wet(ponds)/dry storm basins and all piping for each system. All funding is received through the approved water rates. In 2022, the water rates were established that cover all costs to include major investment projects, personnel, equipment, vehicles and maintenance costs. The next water rate will be established in January 2027. Maintaining the Village’s utilities infrastructure is one of the Village’s most important responsibilities. To ensure the availability and reliability of these services, the Village continues to make substantial investments in its infrastructure by improving the quality and robustness of the Village’s public water supply, sanitary and storm systems. Included in the budget are water maintenance items that include water test samplings, valve exercising, hydrant exercising/flushing/painting, leak detection, pipe inspection, water control system upgrades and replacing a water pump at the Main Pump Station. All of these help ensure the water system functions reliably for residents and the fire district while providing a safe and dependable drinking water supply.
