2026 Budget In Brief
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEWS
WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT/LINING PROGRAM As water mains age, water main breaks occur and are tracked by the Utilities Division. By measuring the increase in frequency of breaks and inspection of the piping, future replacement projects are planned in the future throughout the Village. In 2026, lining of the 2nd half of the Crystal Tree subdivision is planned, with a small section of the Westwood Subdivision to be replaced. Sanitary/Storm System The Village of Orland Park has separate sanitary (waste disposal piping) and public storm (rainwater piping) sewer systems. The discharge from the sanitary sewer system is sent to a wastewater treatment facility operated by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC). The discharge from the public storm sewer system flows through dry/wet detention basins, piping and creeks to get to the Des Plaines River.
PUBLIC SANITARY & STORM SEWER MAINS Separate sewer systems exist for sewer mains. One for sanitary/ waste disposal (bathroom and kitchen outflow) and public storm sewer mains for rainwater disposal (from storm sewers and sump pump outflow).
WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITY
FILTERED INTO LOCAL RIVERS & STREAMS
Outflow from the public sanitary sewer system are sent to a wastewater treatment facility operated by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
After the outflow has gone through a primary, secondary and final treatment stage, it is then filtered from the public storm sewer system and sent to the local rivers and streams.
