GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY: ILLINOIS LABOR JOURNEYS Join historian Mike Matejka, the vice president of the Illinois Labor History Society, for a presentation on Illinois’ labor history. May 4, 2026 marks the 140th anniversary of the Chicago Haymarket Riots in 1886. Mike’s presentation will highlight how the State of Illinois was critical to workers finding their democratic voice through labor organization, using examples such as the Radium Girls from Ottawa, Illinois and the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. NOTE : Registration is required as space is limited.
