CONSIDERING A RECUMBENT TRIKE? Here are some factors to consider:

There are a number of models of recumbent trikes, and all have unique features. The best model depends on individual needs, so it is good to think about priorities. If speed is important find a trike that is aerodynamic and lightweight. Some models put comfort first with a wider seat and an ergonomic design to prevent back pain. Others can be folded for ease of transportation. Add e-assist for a power boost

E-assist is an option that adds a small motor to the trike. Riders still pedal but can use the motor for an extra help going up hills or when fatigued. Harold and Judy Lewis added e-assist to their trikes last year after Judy hurt her ankle. This optional feature also makes longer trips more comfortable.

Because trikes are lower to the ground, they can be more difficult for motorists to see. Adding a flag for visibility along with headlights and reflectors helps prevent accidents.
