Orland Park Special Olympics Medalists Christopher Baumann and Geoffrey Klimek were honored at the July 21st Village Board meeting. Both of Orland Park’s national competitors returned home with medals. Baumann, of Orland Park, earned a gold medal for dead lift of 303 pounds, a silver medal for bench lift of 203 pounds and a silver medal for overall. Geoffrey Klimek earned a silver medal in golf, representing Orland Park and the State of Illinois at the national level of Special Olympics competition. Congratulations to both of these outstanding athletes! An employee service award was given to Police Chief Timothy J. McCarthy in recognition of his outstanding level of dedication in serving the Village of Orland Park for the past 20 years. McCarthy has served as Chief of the Orland Park Police Department since May of 1994 when he retired from the United States Secret Service after 22 years of service.
Eagle Scout Gregory Biggio, of Tinley Park Boy Scout Troop 380, received a Community Pride Award for from Mayor McLaughlin and the Village of Orland Park for his accomplishment of reaching the rank of Eagle Scout. Only 2% of Boy Scouts nationwide reach the rank of Eagle. Each one that is recognized by the Village of Orland Park is asked to explain his Eagle Project. Biggio’s brother recently joined the Army and that gave him the idea to conduct a large scale collection for military serving overseas. He then organized a gathering where people made cards and letters for those serving. Congratulations on your accomplishment, Gregory!
