ILLINOIS CREOLE, FRENCH CANADIANS, & LOUISIANA CAJUNS Enjoy a night at the Museum listening to songs, played on a Creole fiddle. Learn how the French of the Illinois Country serve as a time capsule for their relatives in the north and south. With a “dash” of Cajun and a “pinch” of Quebecois, this program will show patrons how the Illinois Creole culture bridged the expanse between Canada and Louisiana. Program is free and is funded by an Illinois Humanities grant. Illinois Humanities is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Illinois General Assembly through the Illinois Arts Council Agency (IACA), as well as by contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations. A KILLER AMONG US KILLERS, STALKERS, AND CREEPS OF THE MODERN ERA ‘Tis the season to learn about creepy individuals of the past. This is part 2 of our Killer Among Us programs. If you missed out on part 1, have no fear! You will still enjoy this program! Learn all about bloodthirsty monsters who stalked, murdered, and wrote their own unique stories of murder! Beer and wine will be served.
It is December 30, 1903, and you are enjoying a day in Chicago at the theatre. Over 2,200 people are in attendance, all waiting to see the Drury Lane musical, Mr. Blue Beard. Then, around 3:15pm, disaster hits...flames are everywhere. By the end of the tragedy, there are over 600 deaths. Learn about this fire that took place at the Iroquois Theatre, current site of the Oriental Theatre. Some even say the alley next to the Oriental Theatre is haunted...Beer and wine will be served.
EXHIBIT RUNS THRU NOVEMBER 5 Celebrate Orland Park’s 130th anniversary at the Museum! Learn about the time Orland was incorporated and what was happening in America. The exhibit also covers village’s growth and changes through the decades.
