2023 OP Summer Newsletter

LETTER FROM THE MAYOR

Dear Orland Park Residents, It’s summertime in Orland Park and it is great to see everyone out and about enjoying all Orland Park has to offer. It is truly one of my favorite times of the year when Orland Park’s facilities and parks are full of families and fun events are in full swing. Within the pages of this issue of the Village of Orland Park Newsletter you will find information about upcoming events, programs and projects in Orland Park. We hope that you find it useful and informative. Thank you to those who joined us on Memorial Day as we remembered and honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. The Orland Park community faithfully comes out in support of our area veterans and I am humbled every time I am able to attend an event. The Village’s annual Fourth of July celebration kicked off with the annual Veterans Liberty Run & Walk on July 3 and concluded with a concert featuring The Davenport Project and a musical fireworks display at Centennial Park on July 4. Thank you to everyone that come out to support the Veterans Liberty Run & Walk and enjoyed the show. The 20th Anniversary Taste of Orland Park was a monumental success. We welcomed local restaurants, vendors, live entertainment and more to Orland Park. Thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated with us and to th people who worked hard to make this event successful. The Taste is a summer staple and I look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s taste! The 2023 Orland Park Veterans Golf Classic will be on August 29. This event will benefit the Orland Park Veterans Commission and area Veterans and military groups, more information can be found on page 28. It is one of my favorite events of the year and I hope to see you there. The perfect place to escape the summer heat, the Centennial Park Aquatic Center is open for the season, see page 38 for hours of operation. Market at the Park has returned to Crescent Park and is on Thursday nights from 4-8 p.m. Visit the Market for a variety of vendors and free weekly entertainment. In addition, we have many free concerts, movies and events this summer in Orland Park. Visit orlandpark.org/events for a complete list of upcoming special events. Centennial Park West and Schussler Park will begin to look a little different in the coming months. We celebrated the groundbreaking for the future Centennial Park West entertainment venue which will feature a new, permanent stage and enhanced event location. We broke ground on the renovations for Schussler Park with the Kendall and Michael Schofield Family Foundation on June 29. For more information on the updates, please look to pages 4-7. Lastly, thank you to the Orland Park Police Department and you, the residents of Orland Park, for staying vigilant and keeping Orland Park safe. Always remember that if you SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING and give us a call at (708) 349 4111 for non-emergencies or 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency. Thank you again for your part in keeping Orland Park one of the safest towns in Illinois. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone around town during the rest of this summer! Sincerely, Keith Pekau Mayor of Orland Park
