LETTER FROM THE MAYOR
Dear Orland Park Residents, It’s summertime in Orland Park and it is great to see everyone out and about enjoying all Orland Park has to offer. It is truly one of my favorite times of the year when Orland Park’s facilities and parks are full of families and fun events are in full swing. Within the pages of this issue of the Village of Orland Park Newsletter you will find information about upcoming events, programs and projects in Orland Park. We hope that you find it useful and informative. Thank you to those who joined us on Memorial Day as we remembered and honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. The Orland Park community faithfully comes out in support of our area veterans and I am humbled every time I am able to attend an event. The Village’s annual Fourth of July celebration kicked off with the annual Veterans Liberty Run & Walk on July 3 and concluded with a concert featuring The Davenport Project and a musical fireworks display at Centennial Park on July 4. Thank you to everyone that come out to support the Veterans Liberty Run & Walk and enjoyed the show. The 20th Anniversary Taste of Orland Park was a monumental success. We welcomed local restaurants, vendors, live entertainment and more to Orland Park. Thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated with us and to th people who worked hard to make this event successful. The Taste is a summer staple and I look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s taste! The 2023 Orland Park Veterans Golf Classic will be on August 29. This event will benefit the Orland Park Veterans Commission and area Veterans and military groups, more information can be found on page 28. It is one of my favorite events of the year and I hope to see you there. The perfect place to escape the summer heat, the Centennial Park Aquatic Center is open for the season, see page 38 for hours of operation. Market at the Park has returned to Crescent Park and is on Thursday nights from 4-8 p.m. Visit the Market for a variety of vendors and free weekly entertainment. In addition, we have many free concerts, movies and events this summer in Orland Park. Visit orlandpark.org/events for a complete list of upcoming special events. Centennial Park West and Schussler Park will begin to look a little different in the coming months. We celebrated the groundbreaking for the future Centennial Park West entertainment venue which will feature a new, permanent stage and enhanced event location. We broke ground on the renovations for Schussler Park with the Kendall and Michael Schofield Family Foundation on June 29. For more information on the updates, please look to pages 4-7. Lastly, thank you to the Orland Park Police Department and you, the residents of Orland Park, for staying vigilant and keeping Orland Park safe. Always remember that if you SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING and give us a call at (708) 349 4111 for non-emergencies or 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency. Thank you again for your part in keeping Orland Park one of the safest towns in Illinois. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone around town during the rest of this summer! Sincerely, Keith Pekau Mayor of Orland Park

Centennial Park West
Renovations are underway for the new Centennial Park West Concert & Events Venue. Conceived in 2003, and utilized for concerts and events since 2011, Centennial Park West will become the home for many of the Village’s special events including the Taste of Orland Park, the Independence Day Celebration and the popular Market at the Park.
The open air stage features a 3,200 sq. ft. performance stage, covered by a roof structure inspired by the Gibson Explorer Guitar. The new stage will enable the Village to host cover, tribute and national touring artists. The site itself will include full infrastructure support to host a variety of food and other vendors.

SCHUSSLER PARK ALL-INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND
&
In partnership with Michael and Kendall Schofield of the Schofield Family Foundation, the Village of Orland Park is excited to introduce a campaign to develop an all-inclusive playground that allows children of all abilities to play, learn, interact and grow.
Our Goal: To build a universally designed, sensory-rich play environment that enables children of all abilities to develop physically, socially, cognitively and emotionally together. A truly inclusive playground is more than just accessible; it is an environment that facilitates parallel play in which children of all abilities play side-by-side, engaging with each other, and laying the groundwork for more complex social stages of play. At an inclusive playground, all children, regardless of ability, can interact with each other and do what all kids want to do... play.
To view the campaign and to donate, scan the QR code below or visit orlandpark.org/ schusslerplayground.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising movement benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. Orland Park’s police staff participates each year to raise funds and to increase awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Illinois.
COOK OUT WITH COPS During the spring and summer months, the Orland Park Police Department hosts Cookout with Cops at area parks. Joey’s Red Hots provided hot dogs and many smiles at the cook out events. Residents are invited to come out to meet their local police officers and staff, ask questions pertaining to public safety and otherwise and enjoy a bite with their community and their neighborhood police officers. We hope you can join us at the next event near you.

INQUIRING MINDS Have a question about Village ordinances? Wondering what is allowed in the Village and what is not? Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions and answers: The Village is currently replacing meters and is scheduled to be finished in 2024. With the help of a support contractor, Professional Meters, Inc. (PMI), the installation process is divided into six (6) zones. The Village and contractor will provide advanced notification and outreach regarding the planned meter replacement work and coordination for each customer. For more information or to view meter replacement progress, visit orlandpark. org/waterinfo. DO I NEED A PERMIT FROM THE VILLAGE OF ORLAND PARK TO HAVE WORK DONE ON MY HOME? For most work, (fences, roofs, hot water heaters, furnaces, pools, decks, etc.) a permit is required. Please visit the Village of Orland Park website, www.orlandpark.org/ permits for further information. Permits are available on the website and can be filled in before bringing to the Development Services Department at Village Hall (14700 S. Ravinia Ave.) Fees are listed in the permit section. WHEN WILL MY WATER METER BE REPLACED?
WHO TRIMS MY PARKWAY TREES?
Although residential parkways are Village of Orland Park property, the trees must be trimmed by the homeowner. By ordinance, trees must have an eight (8) foot clearance from the ground and sidewalks. If you have a concern regarding a parkway tree, please contact the Public Works Department at publicworks@orlandpark.org or call 708-403-6350. Do the holidays impact Waste Management services? If so, which ones? Yes, when your collection day falls on or after one of the holidays listed below, your pick-up will be one day late during the week.
• New Year’s Day • Memorial Day • Fourth of July • Labor Day • Thanksgiving Day • Christmas Day
Collection days and times may be altered due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. For more information, call 800-964-8988 or visit the Village website at orlandpark.org.

Last year, the Orland Park Police Department re-introduced the Bike Patrol Unit back in to the force. Since then, the Unit has grown and become an integral part of keeping Orland Park safe. The Unit is designed to utilize alternative patrol techniques to address all types of criminal activity. Besides routine patrol routes, bicycle patrol officers are available for special functions such as block parties and community events. The unit is comprised of three officers, Officer Ryan Barth, Officer Alex Laphen and Officer Mike Howley. They ride six days a week, logging up an average of 120 miles per officer a week. “Our day usually consists of checking around the local parks, the mall and wherever else we are needed.” said Officer Mike Howley, “We ride most of the day, keeping supplies we need for ourselves or others on our bikes, water, bandages, etc.” Bicycles provide officers with greater mobility and agility, allowing them to navigate through congested areas and traffic more efficiently than conventional police cars. This enhanced mobility results in quicker response times to incidents, improving overall public safety. ORLAND PARK POLICE DEPARTMENT BIKE PATROL UNIT
“One of the best perks of our job is our ability to be in the community and to interact with the public at events. To let them know who we are and that we are here.” said Officer Alex Laphen One of the primary benefits of bike patrol units is the increased interaction between officers and the community. The approachability of officers on bikes fosters a friendlier and less intimidating environment, encouraging citizens to approach them with concerns or information. The Orland Park Police Department Bike Patrol Unit is one of the newer additions to the force, but they are already becoming a favorite in the community. Catch them riding around Orland Park or at your favorite Village events. Officer Ryan Barth is the latest to join the Bike Patrol Unit

The VAU Fallen Heroes Memorial was at the Taste of Orland Park from August 4-6, outside Village Hall. With thousands of visitors, it was one of the higlights of the event. VAU Fallen Heroes Memorial

The information you provide is used by the Village of Orland Park for notification purposes only. Your information will be kept confidential and will never be sold or disclosed to others.
WHY SHOULD I SIGN UP? Residents should sign up each cell phone in the family to ensure each family member will be aware and up- to-date during an emergency. HOW TO SIGN UP Visit orlandpark.org/departments/ police/codered-emergency notification-system to enroll in CodeRed public safety alerts and click the link to register all your family cell phones. ORLAND PARK HERITAGE SITES
Stellwagen Farm This historic farm exhibits the agricultural heritage of Orland Park. It consists of the original farm house and its outbuildings, including a windmill, dairy barn, machine shed, corn crib and multiple farm animal and storage buildings.
John Humphrey House The 1881 home listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the residence of Illinois Senator and Orland Park’s first mayor, John Humphrey.
Hostert Log Cabins Jacob and Bernard Hostert emigrated from Germany and settled in the Homer/Orland area around 1850. They raised their families in their one-room log cabins and became local farmers. These cabins, located off site on West Avenue, showcase 19th-century log cabin construction and the lifestyle of Orland’s earliest settlers.
Boley Farm An Orland Park farm with buildings more than 100 years old, and family owned for more than 161 years. It is a living lesson for schoolchildren and still an active farm.
Chiappetti Slaughterhouse A 60-ton single-story limestone building on Ravinia Avenue. For members of the Chiappetti family of Orland Park, however, the structure reminds them that years ago the family farmed the land on which the building once stood.
