IDENTITY THEFT & FRAUD
Identity Safety
Can I register multiple cameras?
Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the U.S. More than 15 million U.S. residents have their identities stolen each year, with losses exceeding a total of $50 billion annually. While it’s true that identity theft can affect anyone, seniors are at increased risk. Today, senior identity theft is growing rapidly, and people ages 50 or older are frequently the target of scams and fraudulent activity. Several factors make seniors especially vulnerable to identity theft. Many seniors have substantial savings or checking account balances, do not regularly monitor their credit reports, or some may rely on others to care for their financials/banking matters. Luckily, there are many ways you can protect yourself from becoming the victim of identity theft.
Yes. While completing the registration form, list the number of external surveillance cameras available. If you are registering cameras for multiple homes or business locations, please complete separate forms for each location. Only videos you provide the Orland Park Police Department with will be viewed. This program does not have access to live video cameras, nor will video footage be obtained without your consent. How do I register? Visit orlandpark.org/ watch to register. Once registered, you will receive a window cling to hang on a front window/door to show that you are part of the Neighborhood Watch Program. Registration to this program is completely voluntary and can be withdrawn at any time. What footage will be used?
Neighborhood Watch
The Orland Park Police Department has created a resource for Orland Park citizens and business owners to assist in crime prevention and crime solving efforts. The Orland Park Police Department is asking residents and businesses to voluntarily register their personal security camera information with the Orland Park Police Department. After a crime occurs, often times the first step in the police investigation is canvassing the area for security cameras, that may have captured evidence of the crime. While it would still be necessary for the police to canvas an area during an investigation, a compiled database of security camera information would help streamline the process and save valuable time and resources.
The registration would consist of providing the resident or business location, the number of cameras present and contact information for footage viewing. After registering your cameras, the police department will not have access to your footage. That would have to be provided by the owner on a case by case basis and only select members of the police department would have access to your contact information. The registration process is simple, fast and secure. To register, please fill out the following form that can be found at orlandpark.org/ watch.
What if I think I’m a victim?
If you think you are a victim of identity theft or fraud, contact the fraud department of the location of compromised accounts, so that you can close or freeze those accounts. Then contact your police department to report the crime.

HEADING TIPS FOR SENIOR GOLFERS
Golf & Health
Try some exercises to improve your balance and your game There are several exercises golfers can do using their clubs, and these have benefits both on and off the course. Having a limber back and shoulders can improve a golf swing. To stretch, golfers can stand with their feet slightly wider than their shoulders, place a golf club horizontally behind the neck and hang on to the ends of the club. Exhale and twist to the right, pivoting in the left foot. Then, inhale and return to center. Repeat on the other side.
Golfers can also improve balance by practicing lunges. Hold a club parallel to the ground with both hands at chest level. Then step forward into a lunge position, with the knee directly over the heel, making a 90-degree angle with the ground. If it is difficult to balance, try a shorter stride and work into it to develop more flexibility, balance and core strength over time. Golf may drive you crazy, but it also keeps you sane In addition to cardiovascular fitness, golfers experience mental health benefits with increased time in “green space” and social

Take your time! Dedicated golfers don’t like to be slowed down by injuries, but recovering from hip surgery or managing hip pain requires care. Orthopedic surgeons recommend waiting three months after surgery before returning to the game. Because every person recovers differently, communication between the patient and physician is vital. Most people see success by easing into exercise with 10 to 30 minutes of low-impact exercise every day. New golfers, or those who haven’t golfed in many years, also should take into consideration the benefits of starting slow and increasing exercise over time. Trying some gentle shots on a practice green
Smith Crossing resident offers tips for senior golfers “Golf tips are like aspirin,” the late Harvey Penick, professional golfer and noted coach, used to say. “One may do you good, but if you swallow the whole bottle, you will be lucky to survive.” Yet in Orland Park, a village that once declared itself the “World’s Golf Center,” with 1,089 holes within its confines, golf is a way of life. And so is an eagerness to share golf tips. Smith Crossing, a continuing care retirement community in Orland Park, has so many enthusiastic golfers among its residents that a few years ago, the community installed a putting green in its courtyard.

Although his children now run both companies, Don remains active on the company’s board and still goes into the office a few hours a day—when he is not traveling. It is no accident that Doubek, who devoted his professional life to promoting healthy living, now dedicates himself to the game of golf. He played a little bit of golf in college and as a young adult, but it wasn’t until he was in his 50s that golfing became a passion. Today, at 85, he golfs several times a week. Low Impact Exercise
1
MEMBERSHIP FEES* Senior Individual (62+)
Aquatic exercises are low impact on your joints and can be beneficial for individuals living with arthritis, and lessen pain for those with osteoporosis. Water exercises have also been proven to improve heart health and reduce stress. You can do aquatic exercises even if you don't know how to swim. Try starting with water walking. In water that’s about waist-high, walk across the pool swinging your arms (as you do when walking on land), keeping your back straight, and avoid walking on your tiptoes. Anyone Can Do It 2

You can try water walking, swimming, attend an Aqua Aerobics class or even an Arthritis Aqua class catered to individuals who have arthritis just to name a few. To increase resistance as your hands and arms move through the water, wear hand webs or other resistance devices. Water shoes can help you maintain better traction on the bottom of the pool.
*One-time enrollment fee of $50, includes fitness assessment and one-on-one orientations.
The water provides resistance to strengthen your muscles. There is also a variety of resistance equipment that you can use to progress the resistance. Try exercising with water bells or even a pool noodle to increase muscle strength! It can be social (if you’d like it to be!). Water walk with a friend in the shallow lane to meet new people in group classes! To join an aquatic class at OPHFC visit ophfc.com/membership . It’s Fun! 4
