ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

2025 PROJECTS

CENTENNIAL PARK AND JOHN HUMPHRY COMPLEX BASEBALL/SOFTBALL FIELD LIGHTS In 2022, the Village converted the existing ballfield lights of Field #5 at Centennial Park to state-of-the-art LED Musco lights. Musco provides a 25-year warranty and remote-control access while meeting athletic field standards for safe play. Centennial Park Ballfield #4 was converted to Musco LED lights in 2023. In 2025, Ballfields #1-4 at the John Humphrey Complex will be upgraded with new Musco poles, wiring and LED lights. Ballfield #5, which currently does not have lighting, will receive the same upgrades. The total cost of this project is $1.2 million, which also includes necessary electrical upgrades. The Village will receive a ComEd rebate of $138,000 for these upgrades. SIDEWALK TRIPPING HAZARD MITIGATION PROGRAM In 2023, the Village spent $500,000 on severe sidewalk tripping hazard mitigation followed by another $700,000 in 2024. The Village has committed another $1.1 million this year as well to make sidewalks safer for all residents. The Village also owns two sidewalk grinders to eliminate smaller tripping hazards year-round. ORLAND HILLS ROAD & DITCH IMPROVEMENTS Orland Hills West and East are currently the last two subdivisions in Orland Park without a concrete edge along both sides of the roadway or an improved drainage system. Orland Hills West was scheduled for reconstruction in 2024 but was postponed due to permit issues. In 2024, Orland Hills East was designed for reconstruction. In 2025, both portions of Orland Hills will be fully improved with a new full-depth pavement section, new concrete ribbon curb along the edge and open ditch improvements. CENTENNIAL PARK BIKE PATH UPGRADES The bike paths of Centennial Park are a favorite place to walk, run and bike while taking in nature and viewing Lake Sedgewick. The robust surrounding bike path system allows access from many miles away. In 2025, the Village has committed to resurfacing a good portion of the Centennial Park bike path system, while resurfacing the remainder in 2026.

A street maintenance program is approved annually by the Mayor and Board of Trustees wherein various Village-owned streets are scheduled for rehabilitation. The purpose of this program is to reconstruct streets that have shown signs of deterioration over and above the normal maintenance. In 2022, the Village performed a Pavement Condition Survey of the roadways, which showed 21% of roads in poor condition and 5% in very poor condition. This survey showed a vast improvement from the Pavement Condition Survey completed in 2018, which left over 40% of roads in poor condition and over 10% in very poor condition. Due to the consistent commitment to spending funds on road improvements, the goal to reduce the percentage of poor and very poor condition roads is being met. The program includes replacement of hazardous sidewalks, repair or replacement of non-functioning curbs and gutters, milling of existing streets, new surface layers of asphalts and construction of ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps and crosswalks. Miscellaneous roadway preservation procedures including pavement rejuvenator, patching and crack sealing will continue to be completed in areas throughout the Village not yet scheduled for the complete road improvement program. Areas completed in 2024 include Brook Hills I, Mallard Landings Unit 5, Somerglen Drive (Colette Highlands), Wildwood Hills South, Compton Court (Courtyards of Orland Park), Humphrey’s, Clearview Estates East and Green Castle & Manor Homes. Road Improvements for 2025 are budgeted at $6 million and will include the latest road scan recommendations to determine the road repair locations. In 2025, areas to be paved include Catalina Phase I, Brook Hills Phase II, Oak Meadows, Sedwick, Wedgewood Commons, Streamstown & Meadowview Court, Kingswood Drive and Green Valley Drive.
