Day Camp Philosophy The Village of Orland Park Recreation & Parks Department recognizes the need to provide an alternative, safe, supervised summer environment where children can find companionship and enjoy recreation opportunities. Goals The Day Camp Program strives to provide campers with the opportunity for fun in an environment that is positive, supervised and safe. Campers also practice and develop appropriate social skills while learning to make responsible choices. Program Highlights All activities are designed and coordinated by the Day Camp staff for children in 3rd through 5th grade . 2025 Trail Blazers can look forward to (activities subject to change): 5-day campers attend 9:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m., Monday-Friday. 3-day campers attend 9:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Camper drop-off begins at 9:05 a.m.-9:15 a.m. If an earlier drop-off is needed, please register for Breakfast Club. Campers are released from camp promptly at 3:15 p.m. Please do not arrive before 3:05 p.m. for pick-up. If a later pick-up time is needed, please register for Camp Plus. Late Arrival Campers may arrive no later than 11 a.m. After 11 a.m., your child will be considered absent and not accepted into camp that day. 2 • Swim days at Centennial Pool. • Field trips & onsite entertainment • Sports, arts & STEM Daily Schedule
Absences/Leaving Early If your child will be absent from camp, please call your Camp Coordinator, Samantha at 708.603.0119 prior to the start of camp to prevent delaying activities. If your child needs to leave early from camp, please text your Program Coordinator at 708.603.0119 with your camper’s name and the time your camper will be picked up. Your camper will be considered absent for the remainder of the day and may ot return. Drop-Off Policy Staff will be available no earlier than 9:05 a.m. to check-in campers at the drop-off point to the north of Orland Junior High. • Drop-off and pick-up will be from the John Humphrey Complex driveway. • Display the camp dashboard sign on the driver side dashboard. Camp colors will be emailed the week of June 2. Dashboard signs will be sent home with your camper Cars form a single line, entering the northern John Humphrey Complex drive from West Ave., then follow through the parking lot as indicated on page 4. • Follow the driveway and pull up to let your camper out with Staff waiting at the designated spot. Pick-Up Policy In the event of an emergency, parents must arrange alternate transportation for picking up their child. The Village of Orland Park has a three-strike policy for late pick-ups. • A written warning will be given for the first three occasions in which a parent/guardian is more than 10 minutes late picking up their child. on the first day of camp. Drop-off procuedure: •

• After the third warning, a $1.00 per minute late fee will be applied after the 10-minute grace period. • The late fee must be paid at the Sportsplex registration office prior to the participant returning to camp the next day. Pick-up procedure: • Cars form a single line, entering the northern John Humphrey Complex drive from West Ave., then follow through the parking lot as indicated below. • Remain parked in line until counselors bring your child to your car. • Move up the line as needed.

Additional Drop-off & Pick-up Notes: • If walking-in your child , park in the parking lot and walk to the staff waiting at the designated spot. • If your child will be walking or riding a bike to and from camp, please text your Camp Coordinator Samantha, at 708.603.0119, before the start of camp. • Children will not be allowed to walk to a parked car without an adult. Remember.... when exiting, please watch for campers, staff and parents walking in the parking lot. Camp Calendar Calendars are provided online at www.orlandpark.org/ Recreation & Parks/Programs/Camps. Please refer to the camp calendar daily to prepare for weekly themes, proper attire (pool, field trip) and activity items (sunscreen, messy clothes, camp shirt, etc.). Field Trips & Transportation Contracted school buses will transport campers to Centennial Pool and field trips. Please refer to the session calendars for scheduled outings. Field trip waivers will be sent home one week prior to the field trip. Please complete and return by the date indicated. Camp Attire Clothing must be appropriate for outdoor play. No hanging hip pants, low cut tops or clothing that may be disruptive to activities and/or other camers. Each camper will receive one camp t-shirt. Camp shirts must be worn on all field trips . As a safety precaution, campers must wear shoes suitable for camp activities like strap/tie on-such gym shoes. Flip flops/ crocs are only suggested on pool days.

What To Bring To Camp Campers are to bring lunches and a refillable water bottle daily, including pool days and field trips. If the pool trip is cancelled due to inclement weather, your child will not have an opportunity to purchase lunch. • Daily acceptable items: Backpack, cap/sun hat, sun screen & sunglasses. • Pool day acceptable items: Backpack, towel, life vest (if needed), cap/sun hat, sunscreen & sunglasses. What NOT To Bring To Camp Please DO NOT bring: Toys from home, IPod/mp3 player, handheld video games, cell phones/smart watches (allowed but we ask that they are not used for games), fireworks, lighters, matches, knives, razors, etc., firearms (including bb guns), paintball guns, airsoft guns, etc. Lost & Found Campers are responsible for their belongings. To reduce confusion, please label the camper’s name on all personal items. Each camp will have a designated lost and found area so lost items may be claimed. At the end of each session, any unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity. Camp is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items. Inclement Weather Camp will remain in session on days with forecasted inclement weather. Any activity cancelled due to inclement weather will not be re-scheduled. Centennial Park Aquatic Center (CPAC) Campers swim at CPAC two days a week, weather permitting. On the first pool day, “swimmers”, as indicated in ePACT will be given a swim test to evaluate the camper’s ability to use slides and diving platforms. If the camper passes, they will be given a colored-coded wristband, indicating their swim level: red, yellow or green.

On pool days, counselors will pass out required wrist bands indicating they are Day Campers and their swim level. US Coastguard approved life vests are allowed. Pool floaties and toys are not permitted. Pool concessions are open to campers. It is suggested to send no more than $20 with your camper for concession purchases. Campers are responsible for their own belongings and money. *See the Camp Calendar for pool dates and the pool concession list for menu pricing. Sunscreen Policy Day Camp does not provide sunscreen for campers. Please apply sunscreen to your camper prior to camp every day as campers spend time outdoors daily. Couselors will remind campers to re-apply sunscreen at the pool and if outside for an extended amount of time. Counselors will assist in applying sunscreen, if necessary. When sending additional sunscreen with your camper, please clearly label with your camper’s name. Health Information All campers must have their ePACT account updated before being allowed to attend camp. ePACT informs camp of important health information, emergency contacts and camper information, so incomplete accounts will be asked to leave camp until it is complete. ePACT invitations are emailed in 7
April to emails listed in your ActiveNet account. New users will create an account; returning users can update previosly entered information. Medication Prior to camp administering any mediaction, a completed ePACT account must be submitted. Non-perscription drugs will only be administered with a written note from the parent/ guardian and must be sent in its original package with the child’s name, dose and administration time attached. If your camper needs medication administered, please: • Send a single dose of each medication in a sealed envelope. • Included a one-week supply of medication. Allergies Day Camp staff and campers need to be aware of ALL allergies. All allergies including contact, environmental and food must be listed on the ePACT Allergy Action form. Art supplies or other enviromental elements may elicit an allergic reaction that could be easily avoided. Day Camp is a nut-free program. All food brought into camp, must be peanut/tree (almonds, walnuts, etc.) free including sandwiches, snacks, treats and candy. Illness For all campers’ and staff’s health, please keep your camper home if they exhibit any for the following symptoms within the past 24 hours: sore throat and/ or cough, discharge, diarrhea, vomiting, temperature over 99 degrees or a contagious disease. If you are in doubt about your child’s health, please keep your child at home. Should a camper become ill at camp, they will be immediately removed from group activities. Parents will be notified that the camper needs to be picked up as soon as possible.

Should a camper contract a highly communicable disease such as pink eye, chicken pox, head lice, measles, etc., parents should notify Camp Coordinator Samantha, at 708.603.0119, as soon as the child is diagnosed. Camp will notify affected campers and staff of the illness. WORKING TOGETHER To provide a successul Day Camp program, the staff, campers and parents must work together! Staff Responsibilities • Create and maintain a safe environment while providing campers with an enjoyable summer camp experience. • Encourage campers to participate in sports, games, art/ crafts, music, nature, swimming and field trips. • Provide a caring environment where discipline is fair, equal and respectful. • Teach campers fair play, teamwork and respect for authority, equipment and property. • Provide open communication between parents and camp. Parent Responsibilities • Support and enforce Day Camp’s policies and procedures. • Complete/update the ePACT health information account. Throughout the summer, keep staff informed about • Report absences prior to camp start time, 9 a.m. • Be open to communication from staff about your camper’s behavior and work with staff to achieve an agreeable solution. Camper Responsibilitie s • Be a good sport, display a positive attitude and have fun! • Participate actively in games, projects and teams. • Respect others, equipment and property. • Follow camp rules and counselor instructions. changes to emergency contact information. • Drop off and pick up the campers promptly.

Expectations for Campers • Exhibit appropriate behavior and language. • Be responsible for actions and belongings. • Always remain with their assigned unit and area. • Treat campers, staff and property with respect. • Pick up after yourself. • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. • Wear camp t-shirt on all field trips. Discipline Policy & Procedures Orland Park Day Camp promotes an inclusive, respectful environment with a strict no bullying policy and zero tolerance for physical and/or intolerant behavior. Examples of inappropriate behavior include (but are not limited to): • Inappropriate action/behavior : Abusive language and/ or inappropriate gestures/actions directed toward participants, staff or the general public. • Harm to others : Physically assaulting another person (participants, staff or other persons), including striking, pushing, shoving, spitting, proximity intimidation and/or grabbing; or other attempt/threat to physically injure another person. • Harm to self: Physically harming/injuring self, attempting or threatening to do so. • Misuse/Damage of property: Improper care or misuse of items that belong to the Village, site location or items belonging to another person. • Stealing : Removing property belonging to others, the Village or other facilities without permission. • Non-compliance with rules: Non-compliance with program and facility rules. • Inappropriate behavior: touching of others or lewd behavior, racist/intolerant words and /or phrases. If a camper’s behavior disrupts camp, staff will redirect the camper and give a verbal warning identifying inappropriate behavior and list possible consequences should the behavior

continue. If the camper continues disruptive behavior, the following progressive discipline actions will attempt to get the camper in compliance with the code of conduct. 1st Infraction/Demerit: Staff will identify the inappropriate behavior and have the camper sit out to reflect on their actions for five minutes prior to rejoining the group. Staff will reiterate the desired behavior and consequences should the behavior continue. 2nd Infraction/Demerit: If inappropriate behavior continues to occur or becomes more serious, staff will call the camper’s parent/guardian and notify them of the continued inappropriate behavior and the child will be removed for the activity. A written report of the incident will be sent home. 3rd Infraction/Demerit: At the 3rd inappropriate behavior occurrence, privileges will be immediately revoked for the remainder of the day. The Camp Coordinator will contact the parent/guardian and provide a written report of the incident. The camper will be put on a 5-day probationary period in which any other incident will result in immediate suspension from camp for up to five days. Suspension: If after the prior 3-steps are unsuccessful, the camper may be suspended or expelled from the camp program. Please note that these steps are guidelines and exact responses to behaviors are situational and depend on the severity of the inappropriate hehavior. In the event a child is dismissed from a camp program because of behavior, the reigstation fee is non-refundable. Immediate Expulsion: Expulsion will be issued by the Program Supervisor, Recreation Division Manager, Assistant Director and Director of Recreation & Parks. A conference will then be held with the staff involved and the parent/guardian to discuss the decision and recommendations.

Causes for Immediate Expulsion include: • Continued behavior for which camper was placed on probation • Possession of a dangerous weapon or article. • Possession of a controlled substance (alcohol, drugs, cigarettes).
• Racist and /or intolerant behavior. Before & After Camp Programs Breakfast Club: 7 a.m.-8:45 a.m.
• Drop-off no earlier than 7 a.m. at Orland Junior High. • Walk camper to door #19 and ring doorbell for entry. • Cold breakfast is provided daily. • Campers will transition directly into Day Camp. • Breakfast Club follows Day Camp guidelines, rules and regulations set forth in this handbook. Camp Plus: 3 p.m.-6 p.m • Campers transition directly from Day Camp to Camp Plus at the Franklin Loebe Center, 14650 S. Ravinia Ave. • If your child will be absent from Camp Plus, please call the Camp Coordinator, Sydney Preston at 708.417.3232. • Light snack provided daily. • Campers must be picked up by 6 p.m. In the event of an emergency, the parent/guardian must arrange for the camper to be picked up. • Parent/Guardian must walk into the Franklin Loebe Center and sign out their camper before the camper is released. • Please refer to the “Pick-up Policy” for more information. • Camp Plus follows Day Camp guidelines, rules and regulations set forth in this handook.
