Volume 31 - Number 4

Fall 2013 P ride A very serious incident was turned around when lifeguards and a bystander at the Centennial Aquatic Center sprang into action to save a 3-year-old boy’s life earlier this summer. At a recent Village of Orland Park Board meeting, Village of Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin and Village of Orland Park Trustees honored the heroes with Lifesaver Awards and recognized the actions taken to save the child in distress. Honored were pool patron Dave Bornstein, Centenial Park Aquatic Center (CPAC) Squad Leader Christie Demas, CPAC Team Leader Lucas Fritsch, CPAC Lifeguard Rebecca Mallon, Lifeguard Patrick Melaniphy and CPAC Assistant Manager Will Seidelmann. Also pictured: Ray Piattoni and Nancy Flores of the Recreation Department.

Orland Park resident Alex Kowalski, 17, Eagle Scout from Troop 318, partnered with local veterans organizations and fundraised over $600 at Our Lady of the Woods Parish and Saint Michael Church to help send packages to deployed soldiers fighting in Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan. Kowalski was honored with a Community Pride Award in recognition of his accomplishments.

Mayor McLaughlin and the Board of Trustees presented Community Pride Awards to Terry and Alex Broadhurst, local hockey standouts who are playing minor league hockey in the Chicago Blackhawks organization.
